Architecture assignment 1

This summer I went to St. Petersburg, Russia and one of my favorite places we went to was St. Isaac's Cathedral. It's the thrid largest cathedral in the world and let me tell you, it was BIG! Here are some pictures:
If a picture's worth a thousand words than St. Isaac's is bigger than a dictionary! It was amazing, but as we learned in class, there are ten parts to building we need to observe. I wont touch on all ten, but there was certainly a humbling that came from being inside such a large structure. Part of it's emense size was inviting becuase you just want to gaze at it's wonder, but because it's so big, you feel insignificant and not at home. All the gold made it light up beautifully, but it also made those inside realize that this place was not for them, it was for God. Over all, I think it does a spectacular job at being a cathedral and I'd love to return just to see its magesty, but it does lack a sense of comfort.
